Artist's Statement
" I was working at my easel on the
edge of a path at a lonely wildlife preserve when around a bend
approached a pack of dogs. They stopped. The motly crew of six or seven
was mostly collar-less - a wayward band of pirates I thought. I waited
to maybe catch sight of their owner. None came. My truck - and the
nearest tree were a good distance away. And there I was without a
stick. OR a dog biscuit. They inched toward me.
I prefer the drama of battling color and value
with paint and brush. But being outdoors standing in one place for a
couple of hours can present its own adventure. Well, the dogs turned out
to be friendly - in fact one hung back and kept me company until his
onward wandering companions returned. I wanted to take him home. "
Biography
Born in New Jersey, Ted grew up surrounded by
Great Swamp National
Wildlife Refuge in Meyersville. He attended duCret School of Art
in Plainfield, NJ
and after a semester at a
Texas hill country Bible school, decided to move West. First to
Utah as he began his career in graphic design, then to Sachse, in
North Texas, where
he and his wife, Becky raised their
two sons and daughter.
A few years ago, he ventured into the professional avenues of fine art.
"Our social life revolved
around the kids' activities with school, sports, Church and Boy Scouts.
At the same time these became artistic inspiration. Camping and Living
History, as well as the places we've been over the years are the
subjects of my work.
"A painter friend of mine calls art a journey. I like that phrase."
