"The landscape, nature
itself, is a source of endless inspiration. The weather changes,
seasons change, trees and grasses grow and die. One can return to
the same place and come away each time with something new to say.
Capturing the light and feel
of a specific location and interpreting the world in a way that will
ignite emotion in others is my reward as well as my goal. Art is
an expression of emotion that is shared among all who view it. A
light-filled landscape, a moody early morning mist, or trees swaying on
a windy day are all universal experiences through which the viewer
connects to the painting.
Painting on location breathes
life into a painting. It gives a sense of vibrancy, reality and
atmosphere that is rarely seen in a studio work. It forces you to
feel nature, not just observe it. You become a part of the scene
itself and so your emotions are imparted to the paint and canvas.
I want to paint not only what I see, but also what I feel."
